Dear Piedmont Middle School Families, 

 

My name is Greg Barnes, and I'm excited to introduce myself as the new Principal of Piedmont Middle School. I'd like to share a little about my career, why I'm excited to be part of the BUSD family, and how this position represents the fulfillment of promises. 

 

I've been in public education for 25 years and bring many site and district leadership experiences. I started my career as a 7th-grade science teacher before graduating into a site leadership role. I spent the better half of a decade collaborating with students, staff, and parents in curriculum development, social-emotional learning, and work centered around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. My district leadership experience allowed me to expand the work I'm passionate about while meeting the needs of individual school communities. 

 

Having worked in the Bay area, I'm familiar with the close-knit community of the Berryessa Union School District. The district's commitment to collaboration and camaraderie, along with its high-quality academic program, has drawn talented and dedicated staff. The opportunity to be your Principal fulfills a personal promise to return to a principal role when the time was right. The time is right. The years I spent as a school principal were some of the most inspiring and rewarding moments I've had in education. The creativity and camaraderie are infectious, and I miss the energy of leading a school and find myself eager to collaborate with teachers, students, and families again. Many exciting things are happening in the academic, social, and cultural spheres of public education, and I'm excited to be a part of it on an intimate level. 

 

As Principal, I'll work tirelessly to build a community of partners and learners dedicated to meeting each student's personalized needs. I'm excited to be part of a community that supports the same foundations of education as I do, and I look forward to meeting everyone soon.
